Yellowstone’s Sarah Atwood actress teases “nothing is forever” when it comes to Kevin Costner’s role on the hit drama series.

Since season five of Yellowstone came to an end in January earlier this year, fans have been waiting to hear about the show’s future. While details continue to be few and far between, star Dawn Olivieri hinted at what creator and writer Taylor Sheridan could have in store for Kevin Costner’s lead character John Dutton.

Actress Dawn Olivieri recently spoke out about rumours surrounding Yellowstone’s lead star Kevin Costner leaving the show.

Olivieri, who portrayed Sarah Attwood in Yellowstone and Claire Dutton in its prequel 1883, teased an unlikely future for Costner’s John Dutton in the neo-western drama.

Speaking to MailOnline at Paleyfest in LA, Olivieri hinted that “nothing is forever” when it comes to the fan-favourite character John.

The actress teased that creator Taylor Sheridan could possibly deliver a shock death for Dutton, allowing Costner to exit the drama.

Addressing Costner’s Yellowstone exit rumours, she told the outlet: “Sometimes we have to own the fact that nothing is forever and impermanence is the single thing we can count on. And that life is like that.”

Olivieri had a hunch that Sheridan will surprise fans during the next season with John’s storyline, saying: “I believe Taylor to write the rollercoaster. I can trust him to do that because why else are you writing?”

The actress continued: “Are you writing so that everyone feels happy and they feel good about what you’ve just done to them? ‘That’s not why we watch Taylor Sheridan things.

“We watch it because we go, “Ooooh I can’t believe that just happened. Ooooh How could he do that?” Right?,” as she discussed the uncertain Yellowstone storylines that lay ahead.

Olivieri noted that only Sheridan knows how Costner’s time as John Dutton will come to an end.

And if Sheridan decides to kill off the Montana Rancher in a future episode, it won’t be a subtle death, as Olivieri knows far too well.

As Sheridan doesn’t hold back when it comes to wielding the axe on popular characters when he killed her off in 1883.

After losing all of her on-screen children and husband, Olivieri’s 1883 character, Claire Sutton took her own life, resulting in her leaving the popular Western drama.

It comes after it was reported that Costner has asked to drastically cut back on his Yellowstone shooting schedule.

The cutback in filming and the possibility of him leaving the series altogether stems from Costner wanting to focus on his own Western film project, Horizon.

However, there is a silver lining to Costner’s potential exit as it makes way for another Hollywood favourite to join the Yellowstone cast.

Whilst addressing Costner’s Yellowstone exit rumours to Deadline, a Paramount Network spokesperson admitted they had their eyes on Matthew McConaughey to fill Costner’s shoes.

The spokesperson explained: “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.

“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.”

“Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner,” a Paramount Network spokesperson told Deadline,” they added.
