Yellowstone Star Wants A Jamie & Rainwater Alliance

Yellowstone actor Wes Bentley wants a Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) and Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) partnership in the future.
On the heels of the Yellowstone season 5 mid-season finale, Wes Bentley expressed his desire for a Jamie Dutton and Chief Thomas Rainwater team-up. Bentley stars as Jamie, John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) adopted son who feels like an outcast within his family due to his sister Beth’s (Kelly Reilly) unbridled hatred. Rainwater, on the other hand, (Gil Birmingham) holds no love for the Dutton family and only wants to remove them from the land he believes rightfully belongs to the Broken Rock Native American reservation.
In a recent interview with EW, Bentley admitted that he would love a Jamie and Rainwater partnership sometime in Yellowstone’s foreseeable future. With Jamie essentially estranged from the family, Bentley underst ands he will need to find allies anywhere he can get them. The actor believes Rainwater could be that partner going forward. Read what Bentley said below:
I think it’d be interesting with Gil [Birmingham], with Rainwater. That’s a potential ally. Now it’s a game of allies. You’re gaining allies for war. So is that somewhere he goes? I’d love to do scenes with him though. Mo [Moses Brings Plenty] is always a great actor to work with. But I work love working with everybody. It feels like I haven’t worked with most of them. It’s been a vacuum. I’ve isolated myself in Montana. I don’t really see them much anymore. I’m in this cabin in the woods, but I need it, you know? Because some of these scenes that Taylor gives me, they’re all big scenes. So it’s like I need to sink so deep into him to bring out the complexity.
What Would A Jamie and Rainwater Alliance Look Like?
Yellowstone season 5 saw Jamie become Montana’s Attorney General, a powerful position within the government. However, he finds himself stuck between serving the state and doing his father’s bidding. John’s primary goal is to protect the Yellowstone property from outside forces and keep it in his family’s name indefinitely. However, both Jamie and Beth see their father as a threat to that goal. The Yellowstone season 5 mid-season finale had Jamie call for John’s impeachment, something that will surely turn his family against him. The episode concluded with Beth declaring war against him, possibly threatening Jamie’s life.
With his back against the wall, Jamie will need all the help he can get. Since season 1, Rainwater made his plans clear that he wishes to incorporate the Yellowstone ranch into the Broken Rock Reservation. With Rainwater and John on the same side of a political issue involving a pipeline potentially cutting through the reservation, the Chief will find himself in a position of influence with the governor. Jamie and Rainwater could work together to attack John from multiple angles.
However, Jamie appears to also be taking a drastic approach by entertaining Sarah Atwood’s (Dawn Olivieri) suggestion to involve hitmen to eliminate his family obstacles. Such drastic action would likely drive a wedge between Jamie and Rainwater as the Broken Rock leader wants to secure the land without a chance for the Dutton family or anyone else to take it away. With Yellowstone season 5 set to return in the summer, audiences have to be patient to see what Jamie’s next move will be.
