Lainey Wilson is opening up about nabbing her acting debut on Yellowstone.

The 30-year-old country hit-maker was cast as Abby for Paramount’s hit Western drama for season five and in a new podcast, revealed she actually almost walked away from it.

While chatting on the Dutton Rules podcast, Lainey says that she almost walked away because of a personal matter – her dad.

Lainey shared that while everything was going right for her professional, “personally, man. Me and my family, we were really going through it.”

“In the middle of filming of Yellowstone, my daddy was in the hospital. And he was in ICU,” she recalled. “He spent two months in ICU in Houston, fighting for his life — the doctors told us he’s not gonna make it, there’s a big chance he’s not gonna make it.”

Lainey‘s dad Brian (not of Beach Boys fame), was battling a fungal infection that led to a stroke and ultimately, the loss of his left eye.

What really got her back on track was actually her dad.

“He woke up just in time before I had really made up my mind and he said ‘I don’t care if it was my funeral, if you gotta job that needs to be done you’d better go do it and not come back until it’s done,’” Lainey

shared. “I had to pull up my bootstraps.”

After she did get back on set, Lainey shared that many of the cast was constantly checking on her and her father.

“Every day we were on set they were wanting updates about, ‘How’s your daddy doing? We’re praying. We’re lifting him up,’” she says. “Every single person just came up to me and was loving on me as much as they could. That’s truly, I think, what also gave me the strength to keep on pushing through.”
