Rocky Road To Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 Explained

Yellowstone season 5 part 1 premiered in November of last year, with the eight-episode batch concluding with a mid-season finale airing on January 1, 2023. In February, reports began to emerge regarding behind-the-scenes drama involving lead actor Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton. In addition to disputes over pay, Costner, it was alleged, wanted reduced filming time so that he could focus on his own Western, Horizon, a movie in which he serves as co-writer, producer, director, and star.

Following these early reports, Paramount confirmed in May that season 5 would be Yellowstone‘s last. Since then, the Costner drama has continued, and it remains unclear just how much of season 5 part 2 he will actually be involved in, if indeed he will appear at all.

Whatever plans existed for Yellowstone season 5 part 2 were also hampered by the onset of the WGA strike back in May. The actors’ guild, SAG-AFTRA, joined the writers on strike in July, essentially bringing Hollywood to a standstill. It remains to be seen how Sheridan will wrap up the final episodes of Yellowstone, but the universe is set to continue with a sequel series starring Matthew McConaughey, which will hopefully be free from the drama that has plagued the mothership series these last few months.
