Paramount’s popular series Yellowstone is in the midst of a season break, and fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the show.

While there’s no news on when the second half of season five will be airing, the show has been keeping viewers amused on the official Yellowstone Instagram account with regular photos and videos, but the latest post caused bemusement among fans of the show.

The Yellowstone Instagram account posted a clip of John Dutton grumbling: “I’m gonna need a drink for this,” with the jokey caption reading: “A new work week? No thanks.”

While some viewers related to the tongue-in-cheek post, writing: “I am John Dutton, John Dutton is me,” and: “Me too,” others took to the comments section to share their dismay at how long the show has been off air.

“This has been too long of a wait for us fans,” one commented, while another wrote: “I love this show but this wait is ridiculous.”

A third moaned: “Loving this show is like meeting the love of your life, but then they leave you. It’s disappointing to have to wait so long for it to resume. You lose passion for it.”

Another fan suggested Kevin Costner, who plays John Dutton, is to blame for the wait due to scheduling commitments, commenting: “Costner needs to go if he doesn’t want to work. Write him out or replace him with somebody else.”

A second agreed, writing: “Hey Costner, do your job and finish filming!”

Kevin Costner’s future on Yellowstone has been the topic of much speculation recently, following reports that Paramount is considering ending the neo-Western drama due to scheduling battles with the actor.

Keith Cox, president of development and production at Paramount Network, addressed Kevin’s role on the series at a Yellowstone panel in early April. “What I can say is our star, the face of our show and the executive producer, are very confident he’s going to continue with our show,” he told the audience.

Back in February, it was reported that the network may bring the show to an end and shift towards a “potential franchise extension” which would see Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey lead a spin-off series from creator Taylor Sheridan.

At the time, Paramount Network released a statement that read: “We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone, and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come.

“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
