Josh Lucas, who plays the young John Dutton in flashback scenes on Paramount Network’s Emmy award winning hit show Yellowstone, has taken to his Instagram to reveal to his 346,000 followers that one of the episodes of the show was based in fact.

The 52-year-old father of one posted shots of himself in character for the show.

He captioned them: “Sunday’s episode of @yellowstone builds on the amazing true story of how giant wolves were released into the Yellowstone Park. @paramountnetwork #yellowstonetv @televisionacad #emmyawards #emmynominated #emmynominee.”

Although Yellowstone is set in the present-day, when Kevin Costner takes on the role of the irrascible patriarch, Josh’s scenes are flashbacks to the mid-90s and wolves were reintroduced to the park in 1995.

The episode he was referring to was season five’s third called Tall Drink of Water.

In the flashback scenes it is discovered that the recently reintroduced wolves have gotten to the cattle on the Dutton Ranch.

This leads John to threaten that if the legislators can’t protect the ranchers who supported the reintroduction efforts, then the ranchers will take matters into their own hands.

In present day, scenes show two of the ranchers shoot wolves who have been attacking the cattle.

However, the wolves from the park are tagged so that they can be studied and killing them is illegal so they are forced to find a way to dispose of them, which will have huge repercussions for the ranch.

Yellowstone is currently being rerun as fans eagerly await part two of season five.

Earlier this week actor Luke Grimes, who plays Kacey Dutton, gave an update on filming for the next instalment.

He told People: “We have not [started filming the second half of season five] because of the writers’ strike.”

Grimes continued to the outlet: “I think we would be if it weren’t for that.

“But that takes precedence over everything. They got to get that all sorted, and then we’ll be getting after it.”
