‘NCIS’ Fans Have A Lot to Say After Seeing Michael Weatherly’s Cryptic Tweet

After more than two decades of being on the air, NCIS fans are familiar with special agents coming and going from their unit at the Naval Criminal Investigative Services. But some viewers have high hopes for one actor to return to the long-running series.

In a new photo uploaded on X (formerly known as Twitter) on November 6, fans of the CBS show were stunned when they saw Michael Weatherly (who famously played Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo for 13 seasons) post what looked to be a suit similar to the one he wore while starring on the hit procedural drama. As he posed for the camera dressed in a black suit, matching tie and square-shaped glasses, his caption celebrated actor Michael Caine, who was famous for wearing a similar ensemble for his 1969 film The Italian Job.

“My Michael Caine impression,” he simply wrote.

While the alum hasn’t been a fixture on NCIS for quite some time, one of his former co-stars certainly picked up on him posting the unexpected image online. “🔥,” replied Brian Dietzen (who plays Jimmy Palmer) on X, as Michael responded with, “Thank you Brian.”

Between Michael and Brian’s online rapport and the photo of Michael resembling his old character, fans bombarded the actor with NCIS references.

“Looks like a certain #NCIS agent we all miss,” one person commented on X. “How about a Tony impression?” another asked. “New Director of NCIS impression,” a different follower added.

After seeing the post, we all couldn’t help but wonder if Michael Weatherly will ever return to NCIS. Although he nor CBS have given any clues about him reprising his role as Tony, he has hinted over the years of re-appearing on the series, with one tweet from December 2021 joking that he (as his character) still talks about working with Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon, who left partway through season 19 in October 2021).

What’s more, fans may remember that Michael’s character left the government unit in season 13, when he went to France and raise his daughter Tali, whose mother was his former love and fellow agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). In real life, though, Michael left the show to star in Bull on CBS, which ran for six seasons and ended in May 2022.
