The extra long wait building anticipation, the midseason cliffhanger, and the time to say goodbye to the Duttons is keeping fans excited for the final batch of episodes.

There’s lots of great shows coming back in 2024! That includes so many broadcast series that didn’t air in the fall 2023 schedule like they were supposed to due to the Hollywood strikes, Outlander season 7 part 2, Bridgerton season 3, Young Sheldon season 7, and so much more. But the one I think we’re all most excited about is Yellowstone season 5 part 2!

The popular Western has taken us on a wild ride since the very beginning, and now it’s wonderful to see a whole new wave of viewers enjoying it as it’s being broadcast on CBS (season 3 premieres on the network in January 2024). Though us longtime fans have been waiting a much longer time than expected for the second half of season 5, which is set to premiere in November 2024 on the Paramount Network.

So why is Yellowstone season 5 part 2 the most anticipated series of 2024? I’ll give you three reasons: it’s going to be nearly two years since part 1 ended on Jan. 1, 2023; the midseason finale ended on a cliffhanger, and it’s the final episodes ever. Read on below as we break down all the reasons in detail!

The long wait for Yellowstone season 5 part 2 builds our anticipation

There’s certain shows like Stranger Things and Yellowstone that have a special element to them. Even if we’re waiting more than a year to see new episodes, the anticipation continues to build amongst fans. We’re eager for any updates and news, and we (im)patiently wait until the show returns. And that’s what’s happening with Yellowstone season 5 part 2. The final six episodes of the season were supposed to come back in summer 2023, but production got delayed with alleged behind-the-scenes issues, as well as the writers and actors strikes.

Now, filming is supposed to start in spring 2024 so the episodes are ready to premiere on our screens in November! It’s a much longer wait than we thought it would be, but at least we now have an update. And the fanbase for this series is loyal like no other! We’ll continue to wait as long as it takes. The wait is difficult, but I have to admit it does keep us on your toes and excited for what’s to come next.

What’s next after the midseason cliffhanger?

There’s definitely no shortage of drama in the Dutton household, whether that’s between them and their enemies or within the family itself. The biggest cliffhanger coming from episode 8, “A Knife and No Coin,” is the continuation of Beth vs Jamie. It comes to a head when she goes to her brother’s home to reprimand him for calling for John’s impeachment. The two argue Dutton style and Beth warns Jamie that war has just begun between the two of them. So much so that when she speaks to her father later, she says Jamie should be the next person taken to the train station – aka where the Dutton’s bury their enemies after killing them. Woah!

The acting on this show is so great, and the complex characters and their dynamics always make for an intriguing story. This is one of my favorite things about Yellowstone, and why I think there’s so many of us who continue to tune in. And whenever you’re left with a cliffhanger, you can bet fans are anticipating what comes next!

So long, Duttons

It’s hard to believe we’ve reached this point, but Yellowstone season 5 is the final season. And when part 2 debuts, that ‘s the last of the Yellowstone episodes. There’s multiple spin-offs in the universe, though nothing is going to be the same as the flagship series. Of course for any show you’ve invested time and years in, you want to see how it ends. And that’s why as this is the final set of episodes, it makes the anticipation for the series and season even higher.

It’s unknown whether lead actor Kevin Costner is going to be in the final batch of episodes, due to rumored tension between the actor and creator Taylor Sheridan. But either way, I know the writers and Sheridan will give us a proper ending. And that’s all we can ask for. It’s bittersweet to reach this moment, but it’s certainly been a good run. And I think I speak for all of us when I say, we tip our hats to the Duttons!
